What the heck is responsive web design?

Up until now, if you wanted a website that worked on both a traditional computer screen and a smart phone, you had to have two sites. That would be two sites to update and maintain. Then, what do you do about a tablet-sized site?

Now, using the power of HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript, The Marketing Department is able to create ONE SITE that responds dynamically to the screen size of the display device. (That's why it is called responsive.) An excellent example, is the site we recently created for the Ignacio Chamber of Commerce. View the site on your desktop or laptop computer and notice how the links bar is on the left and the big display image is on the right. There is space for header and sidebar ads.

Then, view the same site on your smart phone--or just squeeze your browser down to a small window. Notice how the links bar uses the entire screen width and the and the display image is below. All the ads have been hidden since they would take up too much content area for a phone screen.
